Im currently placed at Toni&Guy and have been very blessed in learning so much knowledge from the artistic directors in the salon for the past two years.. This is a pic i took of isabella (one of the art directors) from the salon presenting her work at “YOUR STAGE” (2020 Trend) which is an event that is run every year by Toni&Guy (this year it was held in manchester) it was amazing to go down with the girls and guys and be part of a team who are doing amazing things in the industry. It really inspired me to keep my passion pants super glued to my ass and grab every opportunity that comes my way in this industry.
This was an artistic cut and colour that i done after a visit to the kelvingrove museum. i wanted to find artists that i liked and turn my inspiration into a hair design. i was inspired by the stained glass artist stephen adams i loved how the colours in the glass shawn through the bright day light so i bleached the hair up as light as possible placed crazy colour ontop of the cut to show definition and inspiration .. the cut was inspired by charles rennie macintosh.. i love how is designs are made timeless and bold with his long lines extra long and short lines extra short so i opted for a long and short style with disconnection.

Different uses of social media

ย

Social media can be used for many things but the three most common uses are

Individuals. This is when people would maybe use social media for following brands, seeing whatโ€™s in trend, keeping in touch with friends and family or maybe just as a personal journey. The most common sites for this would be Facebook and weblogging and maybe Instagram

Buisness. Many businesses use social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook because they are real time sites and itโ€™s a way to advertise and get customers for free and because most people already have these social media accounts then the content is a definite to be seen which gets them customers quickly meaning they are making more money

Groups. This type of use of social media is perfect for people who want to talk to other people about the things they have in common for example, it can be a great way to communicate for community gatherings, or for fitness people helping each other with their goals or for hairdressers talking about what products and techniques they can advise each other. The most common sites for this use would be Facebook groups. Netmums, and yahoo groups.

Benefits of using social media to individuals, groups and communities

For this type of interaction the best social media platform to use would be REAL TIME sites so that individuals,  groups or communities can get their info seen and they can interact immediately or as soon as they are logged on.. REAL TIME platforms have COOKIES that send notifications to your smart phone to give you updates when there is a new post on your news feed, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter are usually the main sites that are used for this kind information sharing techniques. For example if your child is away on a school trip the school will send updates of the daily activities via twitter so that parents can see what their children are doing without the schools having to let the children phone home, this kind of interaction saves a lot of time (and triggered homesickness)  as it would take a couple of hours to let all the children call home for 5 minutes when instead it can all be uploaded instantly and parents can comment and chat to the school teachers or other parents who are logged on, and that is a perfect example of a positive use for social mediaโ€ฆ same with communities, for eg there may be a community clean up day where the community can send info out on Facebook or Twitter so that volunteers can get together and clean the surrounding areas together, the city council likes to interact with these kind of events and will provide communities with the items like blag bags litter pickers and high viz vests and itโ€™s a nice way for kids and the adults to all get involved and interact socially as some people especially the elderly might not get a lot of visitors so if they have neighbours who are on social media its an opportunity to invite them outside to get involved this is also another positive of social media.

Criticisms of using Social Media

Social Media can have a detrimental impact on peopleโ€™s mental health especially the type of content that may appear in news feeds for eg body image. Even if you donโ€™t follow fitness pages they still may appear on you news feed due to the original posters Social Media Intelligence skills, and because your friends may follow them, then they will likely appear on your page as a sponsored add.  I have shown some pics of michie_peachie (a personal trainer that I am very inspired by).  โ€œWhen I start to gain weight I usually look at her feed and it gives me a little drive to get back to the gymโ€ โ€ฆ but I understand that some ladies might feel the opposite.

This can really affect oneโ€™s self esteem leaving people who struggle with weight issues feeling totally deflated in their daily lifeโ€™s. This also applies to people who are fit and healthy, they may see content with big muscles or unrealistic body goals that they compare themselves to, leaving them feeling like utter garbage, no matter how hard they try, they may feel they are not getting anywhere which leads to feeling rubbish about themselves.

And men in particular feel like they need to get on the muscle band wagon because the fitness bug has stormed the country

They may feel the need to compete with other men or โ€œbuff upโ€ to attract women which can also have an impact on their mental health and male ego. Or if people are becoming fitter and they post updates of their newly toned bodies it can attract โ€œLIKEโ€™Sโ€ from the opposite sex which can lead to arguments and infidelity or instead of cheating, people may send the wrong signals to other people and before they realise, they are connecting or flirting with the opposite sex to feel better about themselves causing trust issues and breakdowns in relationships. Obviously Social Media is not the cause of these problems its the people who are responsible for their own actions and self discipline, its just a platform for issues like this to evolve rapidly. The worst things out of all the negative impacts of social media are probably how young girls, boys and teeReducing adverse effects of social media including regulationnagers perceive these images and compare themselves to unnatural body image. it can cause eating disorders and bullying. Cyber bullying is the Ultimate worst it causes so much pain and even devastating cases of suicide. Society are to blame!! There needs to be laws and consequences on these types of social media use’s.

Reducing adverse effects of social media including regulation

If you are someone whom may have been or possibly could be affected by any of the above situations, or if you know that your mental health can be influenced in a negative way its best to educate yourself on the pros and cons of social media before you set any accounts up and protect yourself from what may affect you. Everyone lives different lives and we all have different backgrounds, some people may be vulnerable or have had to move away from certain situations for personal reasons…. Setting your account to private is key if you want to stay safe on the internet. Make sure you know who you are adding and following. Never give personal details online to people you don’t know and still be careful even if you do know them, as there are also very clever social media intelligence users who can find ways of using your content or information without your permission (and there’s nothing you can do about it if its not set to private.. ) Be vigilant in whats in the background of your pictures that you share, anything containing bank details, an address, your house number or street name, or even registration plate numbers can lead people to use your details for fraudulent purposes (or find you), pictures of the outside of your home can also lead to people knowing where you live. If cyber bullying occurs, never interact, block report and ignore. this can happen at any time day or night 24/7. If you are using it for buisness purposes keep your personal posts for a separate account. and if people leave bad reviews always be kind and try to offer a solution to help regain customer loyalty. NEVER argue back online with a customer its bad for buisness and makes you look unprofessional.

Identifying appropriate social media tech to promote your online resource

To promote your online resource and business, and spread your content you need to set up an account on a popular site that everyone uses especially the type of clientele your aiming at. I set up my own instagram account so that i could follow other hair stylists for inspiration while i am studying, then in the near future i can start to post about my own work and promote myself with the same type of content as other hair stylists. i have found it very useful to see how other hair artist are displaying their techniques on instagram, especially the time lapse videos and the drawn in diagrams they use use on the hair styles to show accuracy on their step by step designs. this has gave me great ideas on how i want to be able to show case my content when i am feeling confident and thorough with my own designs to be able to show others. join me on instagram to follow my journey.
